All Garrett Turbos are subjected to high-impact quality tests, more than any other manufacturer, to ensure that their Turbos are both safe and reliable.
These include both an “on-engine” and a gas stand durability test, with the Turbocharger undergoing a combined 1,500 hours of constant use. The Turbo is tested for shaft motion, thrust bearing capacity, compressor and turbine performance, heat soakback, compressor and turbine blade frequencies, Turbo vibration, compressor fatigue, shaft critical speed, rotor inertia, and thermal cycle. As a coup-de-grace, a compressor and turbine housing containment confirms that even a turbine wheel, deliberately weakened to burst at speed, will not be able to penetrate the shell of a Garrett Turbocharger.
No other Turbo on the market undergoes this level of punishment and lives to tell the tale.
